Vein Disease FAQ | El Paso TX

What is vein disease?

Vein disease is often caused by venous reflux where weakened valves allow blood to flow in an opposite direction called “reflux” which results in discomfort in the legs. The discomfort can lead to pain and swelling in the legs causing varicose veins, cramping, restless legs, and other symptoms.

What treatments are available for vein disease?

There are several vein disease treatment options including compression therapy, radiofrequency ablation, laser ablation, sclerotherapy, phlebectomy, or a combination of treatments. By consulting with a vein specialist, patients can determine which treatment is best for them.

Is there any bruising, scarring or swelling with treatment?

There is a possibility of mild bruising that will last about a week. Patients should not have any scars and expect pre-procedure swelling to improve following treatment.

How quickly can a patient resume normal activity?

The vein specialist may recommend wearing compression stockings for approximately two weeks after the treatment. Patients are generally encouraged to be active and get back into your daily routine immediately after treatment with no downtime necessary.

How soon will symptoms improve?

Every patient responds to treatment differently. Many patients feel immediate relief, with the cosmetic benefits becoming visible after a few weeks. For others, symptoms generally resolve between 6 to 12 weeks.

It is essential for patients to not ignore the signs of possible vein disorders. Treating vein disease will not only help enhance a patient’s physical appearance but also improve their health by eliminating pain and discomfort.
