Common Treatments for Varicose Veins

The decision to treat vein problems is based on relieving symptoms, restoring health to the legs, improving circulation, and improving their appearance. Vein disease specialists use the newest technology to diagnose and treat things like varicose veins, spider veins, blood clots, spider veins, leg swelling, restless leg syndrome, and pelvic varices with little to no pain.

Each case is examined individually, after which the team weighs the various treatment options available, including medical therapy, at-home care with compression stockings, and minimally invasive and traditional surgical approaches. Then, they recommend the most appropriate solution for you.

By offering the entire spectrum of therapeutic options, Dr. Kasha can assure patients that they are receiving the most appropriate therapy for their conditions. This, in turn, results in:

  • Better outcomes
  • Faster recovery times
  • Optimal quality of life
  • Improved outlooks for the long term

There are several minimally invasive treatments for varicose veins, spider veins, and other vein problems, all of which are considered safe, effective, and highly successful with minimal side effects. The procedures are typically performed with local anesthetic only, and take less than an hour, so you can drive yourself to and from the appointment.

Some of the treatments include:

  • Sclerotherapy – This procedure involves injecting a medication into the affected vein. The medication reacts with the wall of the blood vessel in such a way that an inflammatory process is created which ultimately leads to the disappearance of the veins. This treatment is highly effective particularly for smaller veins, like spider veins.
  • Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy (chemical ablation) – An ultrasound machine is used to monitor and guide the sclerotherapy treatment. This allows distended veins not visible through the skin’s surface to be treated, as well.
  • Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) – A common treatment for large varicose veins that involves inserting a laser fiber into them. The probe emits intense energy that converts into heat energy in the veins. This ultimately closes the treated veins.
  • Radiofrequency ablation – It’s similar to EVLT, but uses radiofrequency rather than laser energy. Results of this procedure are very similar to EVLT.
  • Microphlebectomy – A simple procedure performed under local anesthesia whereby varicose veins are removed through tiny 2-3 millimeter incisions. This procedure is performed in the office with minimal discomfort.
